The country is called Misr or Masr in the local language and its official name is Arab Republic of Egypt. The name Egypt comes from the Greek name "Egyptos". Its name in ancient times was KMT (Kemet), which mean "the black country", a name most likely taken from the black and fruitful black soil along the Nile.
