Aswan Hotels

Ancient Swenet was the border city to ancient Neb or Nubia. This is what we today call Aswan, but while the city of Swenet was located on Elephantine Island today's city of Aswan is located on the east bank of the Nile.

White sails, islands and the Nile is part of what visitors will remember from Aswan.

Late Aga Khan considered this the most beautiful place on earth, and when he passed away it was arranged by his instruction that he was buried in his mausoleum in Aswan, his paradise on earth.

This was also the first place one would meet hindrances in the Nile if one sailed up the Nile from south. The first cataract in the Nile was located here and today the great Aswan Dam is built in this area.

Here one will find the beautiful Isis temple which together with the Amon temple in the Siwa Oasis was the last place ancient Egyptian religion was practiced by its priests.

 Old Cataract Hotel
