Minia Mercure Nefertiti & Aton Hotel
Between Cairo and Luxor lies one of the most important cities in the Nile valley, Minia.
Just south of the city is the remains of the ancient city Khmunu, later called Hermopolis Magna as the Greeks saw their god Hermes in the Egyptian god Thoth. So here lived nobody less than Thoth, the god of wisdom and writing.
On the other side of the Nile, Pharaoh Echnaton established the new city Akhetaten while one closer to Minia find Speos Artemidos. Here Hatshepsut built the first rock temple in Egypt, not far from the very interesting tombs of Beni Hassan (Middle and New Kingdom).
