Western Desert Hotels
Direct to the Hotel List
The Western Desert, or 2/3 of Egypt have six main oases, one close to Libya, four in a curved row from Cairo to Luxor and the last south of Cairo. You can see them on the map below and get some more information about the Western Desert here along with two articles from this area.
Its possible (and highly recommended) to visit Fayoum Oasis on a full day tour from Cairo. In theory one can visit Kharga Oasis in one day as well from Luxor, but we recommend having at least one night here as its a rather long drive going both ways in a day.

Entrance to four star Pioneer Hotel in Kharga Oasis.
Kharga is the administrative centre for the oases in Wadi Gedid (Baharia, Farafra, Dakhla and Kharga) and have ancient Egyptian temples, important early Christian history and a small but important museum with a collection from Pharaonic times, Christian and Islamic area.

From El Badwiya Hotel in Farafra Oasis.
Dakhla is the largest agriculture oasis, and on a personal level - very often our favourite oasis. Farafra is a smaller oasis, and the most important here is the unbelievable White Desert.
|
Indoor hot spring in Baharia Oasis Hotel.
Baharia is the northern oasis of these four, and here you will find one of the hot springs you will find in the different oasis - inside the small hotel. Siwa Oasis got its own history unlike the four mentioned, and here one the two important oracles of the antique world was located (the other was in Delphi).

Local style over the rooms in Dakhla Oasis.
Closer to Cairo is the man made Fayoum Oasis, and as said, a full day tour from Cairo can be done here - but for all the other oases you will need accommodation.
