The North Coast of Egypt is part of the exiting South Mediterranean Sea, and its here Africa meets Europe. This is maybe seen most clearly in Alexandria, the city established during the Greek period in Egypt.

In west the North Coast meets Libya and not too far from this border is Mersa Matrouh. From here the road takes you deep into the desert and the Siwa Oasis. Between Mersa Matrouh and Alexandria are Alemein, the place where one of the largest battle scenes during World War II stood. The cemetery here is filled with tombs for soldiers from all parties involved and is visited by large number of relatives every year.

From Alexandria and eastwards the Nile Delta stretches its fertile land all the way to the Suez Channel in east. If one visit some of the cities by the shores of the Delta one will be truly surprised if one meet other travellers.

Eastwards from the Suez Channel one will enter the North Coast of Sinai. Desert and palm beaches all the way to the capital of North Sinai, Al Arish.
